Our Story

THE BEGINNING

The church was founded in September of 1957 by Reverend Clyde Self. The first services were held in the home of one of its founding members - Timothy Lovell. It wasn’t long after that a permanent building was purchased at 3001 West 70th Street in Sunset Acres. The church’s original name was “Cullen Haymon Memorial United Pentecostal Church”. It would later be renamed to “Sunset Acres United Pentecostal Church”.

GROWTH AND STABILITY

Reverend Self pastored the church for over 30 years. Before retiring, he was able to pass the torch to Reverend Kent Greer who still serves as Pastor another 30 years later. The church is blessed to have had only two pastors in the past 65 years - a real rarity!

In 1999, construction began at its current location at 3001 Meriwether Road in south Shreveport. The church continues to strive today under the leadership of Pastor and First Lady Greer.
